Two Hybrid Defined
An experimental system used to identify and describe interaction data displayed at SGD. In this system a "bait" protein fused to a DNA-binding domain is tested against a "prey" protein (often a library of proteins) fused to a DNA-activating domain. An interaction between the "bait" and "prey" is indicated by transcriptional activation of a test gene; often, a prey protein that results in a positive interaction is called a "hit". This experimental system is also used for variations of the Two Hybrid system such as split-ubiquitin.
